Best Current Hack: Jeep Wrangler for $295/Month, $0 Down + TTL (Updated for October)

With the global microchip shortage wreaking havoc on available vehicle inventory, it can be hard to hack a lease deal these days.

There is, however, one possible exception right now — the popular 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and Gladiator. If you play your cards right, one could be leased for around $300 per month with no down payment (a.k.a., capitalized cost reduction), plus taxes, title, and license/registration fees.

Crazy High Residuals

This potential deal is due to the insanely high residual values on certain trims of Wrangler and Gladiator. Chrysler Capital has set the 48-month, 10K mile/year residual on the Sport and Willys Sport trims of Wrangler Unlimited at a whopping 68% of MSRP (one percent lower for Gladiator).

When leasing a car, you’re largely paying for the depreciation that occurs over the course of the lease. The higher the residual value, the cheaper the lease. Chrysler Capital is predicting that a Wrangler Unlimited Sport or Willys Sport will depreciate just 8% per year, when averaged over the course of four years.

Below are Chrysler Capital’s 15K mile/year residuals for Wrangler and Gladiator for terms ranging from 24 months to 48 months, followed by a table with adjustments for lower-mileage leases.

These residuals are valid through November 1, 2021.

Get A Discount by Pre-Ordering

In addition to a high residual value, you’ll also need a reasonable selling price to hack a Wrangler or Gladiator lease.

Given the inventory shortage, most dealers are selling in-stock Wranglers and Gladiators at MSRP, or worse, with market pricing adjustments above MSRP.

However, some dealers and brokers are offering discounts on custom orders. With a custom ordered vehicle, a dealer may be willing to accept a lower profit margin in exchange for the certainty of a pre-sold vehicle.

Check the Marketplace on Leasehackr Forum to find sellers advertising discounts below MSRP on custom Jeep orders—some as much as 9 percent off MSRP, depending on the model.

One caveat: custom orders will take 8-10 weeks time, and there is the potential that residual values change after October, which may have an effect on the final monthly payment.

Estimate Your Jeep Lease

Use the Leasehackr Calculator to estimate the cost of leasing a Wrangler or Gladiator. You can manipulate variables like MSRP, percentage discount off MSRP, residual value, sales tax rate, and fees. Here’s one example of a base 2021 Wrangler Unlimited Willy’s Sport lease before taxes and fees, assuming a 3 percent discount off MSRP.
