Chip Shortage: Why Finding a V8-Powered Mercedes-Benz Will Be Harder than Ever
If you’ve been following the automotive industry, you’ll know that a global microchip shortage has wreaked havoc on the supply of new cars.
Modern cars rely on microcontrollers and processors for nearly every aspect of their operation. Car manufacturers have had to deal with the shortage in different ways. Toyotas are being delivered with just one key, while Teslas are being built without Autopilot radar sensors.
Now, you can chalk up the loss of most V8-powered Mercedes models in the U.S. to the global microchip shortage. Suspended MY 2022 models no longer available for ordering include the following:
Mercedes-AMG C63 S Coupe
Mercedes-AMG C63 S Cabriolet
Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S Coupe
Mercedes-AMG GLC63 SUV
Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S SUV
Mercedes-AMG E 63 S
Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Wagon
Mercedes-AMG GT 63
Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S
GLE 580 4MATIC
GLS 580 4MATIC
Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S SUV
Mercedes-AMG GLE63 S Coupe
Mercedes-AMG GLE63 SUV
Mercedes-Maybach GLS 600 4MATIC
G550

The only cars and trucks still getting V8 engines are the S580 luxury sedan and the G63 SUV, respectively. If you want a V8, better hurry to your Mercedes dealer, and be prepared to pay a five-figure mark-up due to the scarcity of these vehicles.
