Here's Every New EV Released at the 2021 LA Auto Show!

This week, Leasehackr attended the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show. If there’s one takeaway from the event, it’s that electric vehicles represent the future of the global automotive industry.

Nearly every automaker, however big or small, is set to release new EVs that promise to push the boundaries of value, driving range, technology, and performance.

Here’s a look at every new EV released at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, which is open to the public from November 19 to November 28, 2021.

2022 Porsche Taycan GTS and GTS Sport Turismo

Deliveries begin: Early-2022
Range: 230 miles est. (EPA)
Price: $131,400

Leasehackr’s take: To a certain set of car enthusiasts, Porsche’s Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is what dreams are made of. The 590 horsepower GTS trim slots between the impressive 4S (462 horsepower) and blistering-quick Turbo (670 horsepower). Sport Turismo denotes a road-going wagon, free of the superfluous body cladding and increased ride height found in the off-road-inspired Cross Turismo, which debuted earlier this year.

Taycan GTS Sport Turismo is proof that electric vehicles can be enticing even to the most diehard of driving enthusiasts.

2023 Subaru Solterra SUV

Deliveries begin: Mid-2022
Range: 220 miles est.
Price: $38,000 est.

Leasehackr’s take: With so-so range and acceleration, Solterra doesn’t push the boundaries of EV specs. But Subaru has nothing to be worried about. The company sells over 600,000 vehicles in the US each year—without being the fastest, most efficient, best looking, or most high-tech in its class.

What Solterra does offer is a practical, all-wheel drive EV from a well-regarded brand with a loyal customer base and reputable dealer network. We expect Subaru to have no trouble selling every Solterra made—with the same going for its near-identical cousin, the 2023 Toyota bZ4x. Perhaps a better question is just how many Solterras will be produced, given the global chip shortage.

2023 Fisker Ocean SUV

Deliveries begin: Late-2022
Range: 250 to 350 miles (claimed)
Price: $37,499 (claimed)

Leasehackr’s take: Fisker Inc. describes the Ocean revealed at this year’s LA Auto Show as a “production-intent” vehicle, but judging by the unfinished details we observed, there’s still much work to be done.

Fisker says Ocean will start at $37,499 before incentives for the base, front-drive Sport model, which offers 250 miles of range on CATL lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. The first 5,000 vehicles made will be the limited-edition, dual-motor $68,999 Ocean One. All Fisker Oceans will be manufactured by subcontractor Magna in Steyr, Austria, with first deliveries targeted for November 2022.

Fisker plans to offer a $379/month Fisker Flexee Lease with a $2,999 initiation fee. To us, these lease details all seem a bit premature, given the substantial work that remains for this tiny, 203 employee company to reach the finish line.

We can’t help but wonder who will pay nearly $70,000 for an Ocean One over more established vehicles like Tesla Model Y Performance and Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance.

2023 VinFast VF e35 and e36

Deliveries begin: Late-2022
Range: 300 miles (targeted)
Price: TBD

Leasehackr’s take: VinFast is the automotive brand of Vingroup, the largest private enterprise in Vietnam with a total capitalization of $35 billion. VF e35 is the group’s first-ever EV, a five-seat compact SUV, which will be followed by VF e36, a three-row EV SUV. Pricing and specifications are not available for either model.

VinFast has ambitions to deliver cars to U.S. customers by the end of 2022, but we’d be very surprised if that happens, given the amount of design, engineering, manufacturing, validation, marketing, and regulatory work it takes to get any car to market, let alone one from a new company.

Concept Vehicles

Hyundai and Kia released the SEVEN and EV9 concepts, respectively. Both are large SUVs that foreshadow the design language of future three-row EV crossovers roughly the size of a Palisade or Telluride.

Beneath the stairs of the convention center, EdisonFuture showed the EF1-T pickup truck and EF1-V delivery van, described as a prototype or a concept, depending on which representative you ask. Mullen Technologies revealed the FIVE concept, yet another EV crossover SUV. We wish both of these small vehicle manufacturers the best of luck—they will certainly need it.

Not New Debuts, but Exciting Nonetheless

The 2022 Kia EV6 and 2022 Hyundai IONIQ 5 share the same E-GMP architecture, offering blazing fast charge speeds and rear-wheel drive based driving dynamics. Deliveries begin early-2022 with official pricing and specs to be released soon.

We were pleasantly surprised by the 2023 Nissan ARIYA, which offers a comfortable and spacious cabin. Deliveries begin fall 2022 with initial pricing to start at $47,125.

We also got an opportunity to ride inside the stunning 2022 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT Performance Edition and F-150 Lightning pickup. Both offer excellent performance, technology, and design. Mach-E GT deliveries have begun, while F-150 Lightning is expected spring 2022.
