Bypass the Third-Party Buyout Ban with Equityhackr
Sell your leased car for a profit
Better than returning your lease, Equityhackr will cut you a check for the equity in your leased car.
Works even for brands that have restricted third-party buyouts, including Acura, BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, and Nissan.
Equityhackr can also make the most of your equity by finding you a deal on a replacement vehicle, if desired.
Looking to end your lease early? Equityhackr can also help!
Due to higher than average car prices, many Leasehackrs are selling their leased cars for a profit — rather than just returning it to the dealer at lease-end. This profit, often called lease equity, can amount to hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars.
Most carmakers have banned third-party dealers including Carvana, Vroom, and CarMax from buying out leases. To help our members access their lease equity, Leasehackr is working with our business community to get around the restriction by buying out leases through a nationwide network of authorized dealers.

FAQ
How much money can I get by selling my leased car?
Your lease equity is the difference between the current lease payoff amount and the price you sell the car for.
For example, our dealer partner buys your leased car for $27,000. The dealer pays off the $25,000 lease balance owed to the financial institution. You get a $2,000 check for the lease equity in your car. If you were to simply return the lease, you would get nothing (and pay a disposition fee)!
The likelihood of positive equity increases closer to lease maturity date, as well as the make and model of the vehicle. BMW, Honda, and Acura are makes that typically have equity at lease-end.
Do I have to first buy out my lease before selling the car?
With Equityhackr, you can sell your leased vehicle without first buying it out. This is not something that CarMax, Carvana, Vroom, or any one of the other mega used car retailers can do, if your lender has banned third-party buyouts.
If you were to buy out your lease, you would have to first secure credit or have the available cash, pay sales tax on the payoff amount, wait for the lessor-released title, and title the vehicle in your name, before you can sell the vehicle in most cases. Equityhackr avoids all that—saving you time and money.
What cars can I sell via Equityhackr?
Most leased vehicles from the following brands can be sold through Equityhackr:
Acura, Alfa Romeo, Audi, BMW, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, FIAT, Ford, Genesis, GMC, Honda, Hyundai, INFINITI, Jaguar, Jeep, Kia, Land Rover, Lexus, Lincoln, Maserati, Mazda, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, Nissan, Porsche, RAM, Subaru, Toyota (including Southeast Toyota Finance), and Volkswagen.
Equityhackr does not handle any Tesla or Volvo leases, or Chrysler Capital (Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Dodge, FIAT, Jeep) leases within 60 days of maturity. Vehicles leased through US Bank can be sold through Equityhackr; other non-captive lenders are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
How does Equityhackr work?
Share a few vehicle details and Equityhackr will email you a free quote (no dealer spam!). If you are happy with the price, schedule an appointment, and your vehicle will be picked up at the location of your choosing. All paperwork will be handled for you. It’s that easy.
Equityhackr is a partnership with Auto Ninjas, a licensed and bonded automotive brokerage. All vehicles sold through Equityhackr are facilitated by Auto Ninjas and their network of dealers and wholesalers who are authorized to buy out your lease.
How long is the quote good for?
The quote is good for five (5) calendar days with no more than 250 miles added. You can secure the offer by scheduling an inspection appointment.
How and when do I get paid?
Our partner will send any lease equity payment owed to you by mailed check via FedEx. Payment will be initiated within 2 business days of the vehicle arriving at the partner dealership.
Can Equityhackr help find me a replacement vehicle?
Yes, that’s an option! Equityhackr can help make the most of your equity by finding you a good deal on a replacement vehicle. Simply state your vehicle preferences when requesting a quote, and our partner will reach out to discuss options.
If desired, you can apply the equity in your existing vehicle towards the new lease to reduce your monthly payment.
What lease payoff amount does Equityhackr use?
Some lenders, such as VW Credit, Audi Financial Services, and US Bank, charge third-party dealers like Carvana, Vroom, and CarMax a higher, market-based payoff amount to buy out a lease. This in turn reduces, or completely eliminates, the equity in your lease.
Equityhackr uses a payoff amount based on the original residual value found in your lease contract, instead of the higher market-based payoff amount. This means that your equity check may be greater through Equityhackr than with competitors like Carvana, Vroom, or CarMax, even if Equityhackr buys out your leased car for a lower amount.
